Excursion 01

Sunday, 9 June 1996

Dear colleagues,

Just in case you have not realized, this session we are to start more than one month earlier than last year. (the first successful one started in 16 July 1995) As in almost every session at its beginning I shall propose a very easy "promenade" to allow our muscles and physiological functions to get use to this "heavy" sport. My proposal for excursion 01 (this Sunday) is the following:

Date: Sunday, 9 June 1996
Site: Mont Benand (1284)
Classification: Very easy
Altitude: 1284 m
Climbing up distance: 365 m
Climbing time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Total hiking time: 2 hours 30 minutes
Starting point: Chez les Vesins (920 m)
Meeting point: CERN Main Cafeteria 9h45 am
Remarks: Panoramics
Access: Take the road to Evian. From Evian take road D24 to Thollon. A little bit before Tollon in a site called "Chez Cachat" take a small road to the right hand side. 300 m after we arrive to "Chez les Vesins" We shall park our cars somewhere there. The trip from CERN to Chez les Vesins may take 1h15.

It is convenient to emphasize some useful items: please do not forget to carry on (wear) raincoat, hat/cap and sun glasses, warm gloves, hiking boots or sport-footwear with thick and non-slipping sole, enough food and drinks for the own consumption. Spear dry clothes and after excursion confortable shoes are very convenient.

I hope weather conditions will allow an enjoyable excursion! Cheers! Jose.
